Read “Quest for Adventure” By Chris Bonington – Now!

Daily writing prompt
Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

Quest for Adventure by Chris Bonington is still on my bookshelf today. It’s one of my favourite books and see an inscription from my Mum in 1982. I would have been around 16 – perhaps an age when many might think a bit old for childhood! Nevertheless, this is the title I’m choosing because I’ve had an interest in expeditions and the great outdoors since my early childhood.

The book includes stories about sailing, rowing, mountaineering, polar expeditions even the moon landing. The chapter about the golden globe race and Donald Crowhurst is particularly memorable.

I can’t really explain where my interest in expeditions comes from. Perhaps a bit of escapism, perhaps trying to find myself, perhaps the immense satisfaction that comes from overcoming a challenge against the odds. Building strong relationships with friends and having fun are all part of the appeal.

For certain, this would have been a present I would have asked for, and one that I would have been keen to get my hands on.

I often visited the library, but this type of book would have been too important for me to have on any sort of short term loan.

Oddly, last night, I said to my wife, I need a book to read……
