What’s your favorite candy?
We don’t use the word candy here 🇬🇧.
We have chocolate and sweets as two distinct things.
I have a sweet tooth, and love sweets and chocolate.
In my 20’s I worked at Cadbury, in Bournville in quality control. This meant eating and testing lots of chocolate and I even joined a taste panel!
This sounds great, but could actually be quite grim! Tasting chocolate that has been exposed to large amounts of packing such as cardboard or plastic film to see if it picked up any taints!
I might be gagging due the the off flavour whilst the person next to me tasted nothing peculiar – or vice versa. Hence the need for taste panels.
Ok -back to the sweets. My favourite sweet is probably the mint humbug. I actually prefer mint toffee but rarely have it as it often results in a trip to the dentist.

Why a mint humbug? When I’m offshore sailing or hiking or camping the hard “boiled sweet” exterior is very good if you have a dry mouth. The mint counteracts any sickness (sea sickness or nausea).
The chewy inside is very satisfying and the energy boost is always welcome!
Ponefract cakes are also great, but hard to find!
Life is always improved with a seeet or two, or a bar of chocolate- to be honest- I’m not fussy!
